She was the F word.
Gloria Steinem embodied, embraced and shared the mission of feminism globally for millions of women in many generations around the world who --because of her influence--knew they could become whom they wanted to be.
The co-founder of Ms. Magazine and the Women's Action Alliance, passed this week at 92 years old. The author of nine books (and another soon to be released), she touched the lives of women and girls with hope, optimism, determination, support and a new definition of what it means to be female. First, second, third, fourth wave and post-feminists owe her immense gratitude.

Netflix Airs "Famous Last Words" Documentary's Gloria Steinem Episode
Interviewed in February 2025, Gloria Steinem signed the agreement for each subject that the episode will only be aired after their death. Following her passing this past week, Steinem's interview is airing now. Among so many poignant moments, she says: "I don’t know if we can contemplate our own nonexistence, but I just hope that I have — however accidentally — left behind some words, or actions, or stories, or something that is useful to the people. And pleasurable, hopefully, to the people who are going to continue long after you and me...There was this person who tried to make the world a little more equal, compassionate, joyful, funny than it was when I showed up.”

The World Because of Gloria Steinem: What Will We Make Of It Now?
“This is what 50 looks like,” Gloria Steinem said to raucous cheers from the several hundred mostly women gathered at a luncheon event in Phoenix 42 years ago.
That was the first time I saw the woman who, for many, symbolized American feminism for over six decades. Her death at age 92 has filled social media feeds with outpourings of gratitude along with photos of people with her sharing how she touched their lives.
Her joy in being exactly who she was captured me that day.
