Take A Stand: Indigenous Leader On Action, Gratitude, Reciprocity
in Times of Crisis

“I am not who you think I am. I am so much more,” says Robin Wall Kimmerer, Indigenous scientist, botanist and best-selling author of Braiding Sweetgrass and the more recent, The Serviceberry: An Economy of Gifts and Abundance.

Speaking at the Chicago Humanities Fall Festival recently on National Indigenous Peoples Day at the Morton Arboretum in suburban Chicago, Kimmerer, a SUNY Distinguished Teaching Professor of Environmental Biology, and the founder and director of the Center for Native Peoples and the Environment, offers lessons of gratitude, reciprocity and community in leadership and life.

Joy As Resistance For Black Women

The three-day African-American Women's C-Suite Summit in Carlsbad, Cal. recently centered on resilience, resistance and joy. Stephanie Tavares-Rance, cofounder of Martha Vineyard's African American Women's Film Festival who started the summit, said, "I think it's essential for us to realize that we're not alone, and our ancestors have been through much worse. I've chosen to focus on joy because I believe joy is a form of resistance. We are resilient, and the thought and the act of reclaiming our resilience has a lot to do with owning our power and our capabilities and not getting caught up in the title of your job,”
Take The Lead prepares, develops, inspires, and propels all women of all diversities and intersectionalities to take their fair and equal share of leadership positions across all sectors by 2025.
