Why U.S. Urgently Needs Leadership Gender Parity: How Power Up Conference Gets You There

If women vying for top spots at work are overlooked at many U.S. workplaces claiming they are too emotional, why then did the new movie about a young girl experiencing  emotions of anxiety, envy and embarrassment just become the largest global box office hit with $1 billion in ticket sales?

Perhaps it’s because the story of Riley experiencing a breadth of emotions in the new Disney animated sequel, “Inside Out 2”, is fictional. But it may be resonating with females of all ages and particularly leaders who say the biased perception of their emotionalism is a barrier to the C-suite in real life.

This is why connecting to other women who recognize and promote their innate power and power of their colleagues is a key factor in the learning and collaboration at Take The Lead’s Power Up Concert & Conference August 25-26 in Washington, D.C..

Power to Change Stories
The Power To Change Lives Through Mentorship

By Janet Phan

I am where I am today because of my mentors who created access and opportunities. When I came to this realization, it hit me hard. I needed to be the person that helped pave the way for others so their path to success can be easier than mine.
My parents were refugees from Vietnam, I worked 10+ hour shifts at fast food joints to pay the bills, I was living paycheck to paycheck and living out of my car. If I could become a global technology consultant, published author and travel the world with the odds stacked against me (but with a helping hand from mentors) how many others could I help myself?

If Elizabeth Packard were alive today, she would be on our Panel “Together We Lead for Health” at Take The Lead’s Power Up Conference and Concert this August 25th evening and 26th all day, in Washington DC and accessible virtually. The theme is “Together We Lead.”
Elizabeth Packard’s life story, while appalling, is inspiring. And it’s a reminder of why Women’s Equality Day on August 26, 2024 will be the most consequential acknowledgment of that date so far in the 21st century.
In 1860, Elizabeth Packard was committed to an insane asylum by her husband because her beliefs regarding religion differed from his more conservative ones. He packed her and her belongings off to an institution and they admitted her without questioning.
