Living Up To Their Dreams: Gloria Feldt and Gloria Steinem on Making Movements
For Gloria Feldt,, co- founder and president of Take The Lead, it was watching Dorothy in “The Wizard of Oz,” in the theater as a young girl that taught her anything was possible. “It was the first movie I saw where the female was the protagonist. Dorothy was a role model when
girls did not have role models,” Feldt said in the recent lively conversation with Gloria Steinem and Jamila Wilson, author and activist. For Steinem, co-founder of Ms. Magazine, feminist icon, journalist and social justice activist, the movie that changed her was “Breakfast at Tiffany’s” with Audrey Hepburn. “She was out there having dreams,” Steinem said.
The Power to Change The Narrative By Chanel Nicole Scott
“If they could see me now, what would they think of me?” When I left Nashville, I was broken, lost, and without hope for a brighter future. I was heartbroken, jobless, and without any prospect of recovery, healing, or prosperity. After my time in Nashville, I lived the darkest days of my life. To make matters worse, I knew that those in Nashville who knew my story or pieces of it only thought the worst of me. I despise being misunderstood, and even though I left so much of my truth unsaid, staying was more traumatic than leaving.
The late bombastic New York mayor, Ed Koch, was famous for going around the city asking, “How am I doing?” So as Take The Lead kicks off its 10th
anniversary year, exactly 10 years after its first big public launch event at Arizona State University’s Gammage Auditorium, we’re asking you, “How are we doing?” We took stock of our 10 top accomplishments during our first decade. Believe me, it was hard to narrow down to 10; please feel free to let us know if you would like to see another area of impact highlighted. Thank you for your support and participation in our work for intersectional gender parity in leadership.
Gloria Feldt, co-founder and president of Take The Lead, serves as the G100 Global Chair for Leadership Parity and will introduce former U.S. Congresswoman Carolyn Maloney who will receive a Woman of Excellence Award.
Feldt is speaking on a virtual panel for the SOAR (Seek, Observe, Act, Renew: Midlife Transition Program) of the Drucker School of Management at Claremont Graduate University.
